Lisbon is a picturesque and charming city, and there’s rarely a better way than to experience it by staying at an independent, privately-owned boutique hotel that offers the charm, style and thoughtfulness the city’s visitors deserve. It’s the Cheese & Wine boutique hotel and suites, providing you the feel of a home away from home, proving that you don’t have to sacrifice comfort during your travels. It’s an ethos that they call as their signature “handmade hospitality“, welcoming you like family and friends welcome guests. Which makes perfect sense, as it’s family-owned and operated and it reflects well on their service and approach. Like their namesake, its unique approach is shown through its refreshing, unpretentious yet incredibly cosy interiors, thoroughly design-led that’s modern yet homely, its service that absolutely feels genuine, welcoming and friendly, and ultimately its handcrafted touches throughout your stay, the careful details that makes your travel quite memorable.
Cheese & Wine calls their ethos as their signature “handmade hospitality“, that means providing you a home away from home, and welcoming you like family and friends welcome guests.
The main boutique hotel location is in Santos district, which is incredibly convenient as it’s only a short walk away from the city centre’s main sights, and yet it’s a located in a design neighbourhood with plenty of cafés, shops, museums and even a yoga studio nearby. Each room has different decor, and named after Portuguese concepts. I stayed in Castelão, with its generously high ceilings, tall windows, and lots of space that includes an anteroom with a desk, which can function as an office corner. There’s a great balcony, too, that overlooks some of Lisbon’s hills beyond. And the bed? It’s the most comfortable bed you’d want to curl up in.
One the best touches of this hotel is the GuestU smartphone that they provide to every room. As a guest, you can take it with you as you travel around Lisbon, so you can stay connected with 4G internet for easy navigation, as well as free international calls, which makes for perfect access to family, friends and even for those who are travelling for business reasons.
The breakfast space is located on the ground floor, next to the reception, with a few dining rooms you can choose from. And it’s a gorgeous breakfast, indeed, offering fresh selection of charcuterie, pastries, homemade food, cakes and other baked goodies. There’s also a great selection of healthy and organic food options such as granola, fruits, cereals, yoghurt and smoothies to delight and set you up nicely every day. You’d wake up looking forward to breakfast every single morning.
There’s also an outdoor terrace with greenery and seating under bamboo foliage, it makes for a calm space to feel Zen. Or perhaps simply enjoying the patio with a nice glass of wine and cheese board served whenever you stay here. That’s how truly special this place is.
