Welcome to In the Mood for Life.
Chances are, you’ve stumbled here either with a thirst for travel or a hunger for living. These were the two reasons why I established this blog in 2017 when I left the perennially grey banks of London, England to bask along the sunny shores of Lisbon, Portugal.
Let me introduce myself — I’m Janz Anton-Iago, a Filipino-Spanish (and possibly Portuguese) multimedia creative. I’m the sole author of this site, amongst many other things which occupy me on most days. I originally hail from the tropical islands of Philippines, and spent most of my adolescent and young adult life in United Kingdom. By thirty, I moved to the Portuguese capital, fulfilling my dreams of living in continental Europe. A new chapter has begun.
And thus, the birth of this travel and lifestyle blog. But perhaps to call it that would be reductive, as I have no intentions of telling you how you should be travelling or the ways in which you ought to live your life. No, this isn’t that website. This is neither a travel guide nor a crash course on Lifestyle 101.
I’ve conceived this purely for the purpose of sublimating the essence of my existence — to capture my wanderings on this Earth in both literary and photographic form, no matter how self-centred that might sound. Everybody needs an avenue for their passions. This is how I pursue mine. An online platform that’s part-travel journal, part-memoir and part-philosophical musings on life.
By doing so, in the most honest, possible way, I hope to provide some inspiration, a little entertainment and perhaps some thoughtful additions to your sense of living. I’ve always believed that those who preach don’t necessarily practise, and I don’t deserve to set myself as an example to others. I don’t pretend to be cool, or know the best spots to go, or which cafés are the trendiest, or which are cities are best to visit or reside in. I live on my own terms, my own tiny fragment of freedom, and if I can live that well and with simplicity and style, being in the places that I longed to be, then so be it. Life’s too short to be pedestrian.
When I’m not out and about, exploring and channelling my inner adventurer, you can find me running my own independent creative studio based in Portugal, specialising in video editing and animation, working with clients from around the world. Elsewhere, outside my professional suite, I partake in photography, film criticism and creative writing, passionately deconstructing cinema in the film blog The Moviejerk and privately anguishing on my first literary composition, a novel that shall be the sorrow of the years to come. These are all being fulfilled in between exciting trips around Europe and Asia. And sometimes, it’s as simple as listening to music whilst staring out to the sea. Because no matter what mood you’re in — for travel, food, art, love or life — that place within yourself, it’s still the best destination to be.
